STUCKY’S MUSIC CLASS
Welcome
to St. Peter School! My name is Mrs.
Donna Stuckenschneider and I’m thrilled to be your music teacher. I can’t wait to share my love of music with
my students! The information below will
help you understand our music program and my expectations for music class. My faculty webpage on the www.stpeterjc.org website also

All
students in music class are graded daily based upon their participation and
effort shown in music class. 10 points
per day may be earned by each student. I
will explain to each class that in music class the worksheets are invisible. The students will need to show me their
answers and work by fully participating in the wide variety of activities
presented. It’s easy to achieve success
in music class! One grade per week will
be entered in our SIS program (20 points possible if both classes are held).
SINGING will be the
first activity of almost every music class! We sing a wide variety of
contemporary Christian songs to help us pray and begin the class.
Kindergarten: This will be a year of discovery for all of
us! I will be getting to know my
youngest students and they will be getting to know me. We will do many things with movement,
discover our voice, play many instruments and begin to learn how to read music
notation. Later in the year we will
enjoy the guitar too!
Grade 1: Throughout 1st grade we will be
able to discover music in a variety of ways!
We will begin by experimenting with electric and acoustic guitars. We will also learn how to play simple rhythms
and melodies on our keyboards and percussion instruments.
Grades 2, 3
& 4: We will start the year by preparing for our
fall concert that will be performed on Thursday, Nov. 14 at 7:00. Once fall concert is completed, we will have
some time to experiment with acoustic and electric guitars!
Throughout
the year we will also use our new keyboards and rhythm instruments to review
concepts of music notation learned the previous year. We will then continue to learn how to play
simple melodies, scales and chords using a wide variety of learning styles.
Students
entering 4th grade will also learn to play the recorder later this school year. Students will receive additional points for playing tests.
Grades 5
& 6: We will start the year using acoustic and
electric guitars. Each class will learn
how to play some simple melodies on the guitar and a few strumming patterns.
Each
class will use the keyboards to review reading rhythmic and melodic
notation. We will also use them to
create “sound stories” as a form of simple composing. The year will be filled with using our voices
and many kinds of instruments including the guitar to help us increase our
musical knowledge and love for music.
Grades 7
& 8: The focus of instruction this year will
constantly be linked to the music history of the United States covering the
decades between 1900 and 1949. The
class will be divided into groups. the
students will work together to make the decades come alive by turning the
history into a television show! Many
instruments were invented during this time period. This will be the year the students will make
their own homemade instrument!
